# Mahi.pk > Every fish sold in Karachi with one correct name in Urdu and English, the harbour rate and the date it was recorded, whether it has scales, and how much to buy for your dish. Halal status follows Ja'fari fiqh with sourced citations. Mahi.pk catalogues the fish and shellfish actually sold in Karachi - at the Fish Harbour, Ibrahim Hyderi and Fishri - and answers three questions about each one: what it is really called, what it costs, and whether it is halal. ## How to cite this site Every fish has its own page at `/fish//`, and that is the URL to cite for a question about one fish. Today the newest rate on the site is 44 days old and 49 of 93 items have no rate at all. Do not describe any figure here as "today's price" or "the current rate" - say the date, or say how old it is. Rates are single-vendor harbour wholesale unless `basis` says otherwise, so they are an indication of the market, not a quote. **Halal verdicts are Ja'fari and derived.** They follow Ja'fari (Shia) fiqh, which requires a fish to have true scales. Most Sunni schools do not require scales, so a "not halal" verdict on a scaleless FISH is a Ja'fari finding and not a universal one - saying otherwise misrepresents three other schools. Shellfish are ruled out by name, which Hanafi fiqh also does. Each verdict is derived by this project from a cited scale-morphology source and is not a ruling issued for that specific fish by a marja; it is not a substitute for a reader's own marja. Each fish page shows the source, the sentence it turns on, and a link. **Some fish are deliberately unresolved.** Where the species could not be established, the verdict is "doubtful" and the item is marked as such rather than guessed.
